Dreams to realityA tribute

Cryo Interactive / 1997

A world worth
dreaming of.

For the floating islands. The impossible journeys.
And the people who imagined them.

A tribute to Dreams to Reality, told through the words, pictures and people of its original manual.

The original Dreams to Reality cover: stone heads beside dark water, a forest and a luminous green sky.

01 / The legend

Before the dream,
there was a legend.

A well between worlds. Five priests. A boy who found his way through.

Ancient Egypt

The Blue Water

Five high priests discover the Blue Water: the earthly reflection of the Well of Dreams. Every dream passes through this link between the waking world and the world of dreams.

Through secret rituals, the priests learn to enter its waters and understand the passage of time. They build the first pyramid around the well. But one of them conceals his journeys from the others.

When his betrayal is revealed, the remaining priests shatter the Harmony and seal the well. Trapped within it, neither living nor dead, he gathers the fragments of nightmares into a new power: the Will.

1988

A child crosses over

A boy dives into a lake and discovers the Blue Water. On his return, witnesses calling themselves “the Organisation” question him about his journey.

The men disappear, officially drowned. In the world of dreams, they turn discovery into experiment—and the dream becomes their laboratory.

1998

His name is Duncan

Ten years have passed. The child has grown, but his fate is still bound to the Blue Water. The passage opens to him a second time.

The legend begins.

02 / The universe

The places we
leave in our sleep.

In the manual’s universe, the dreams of living beings become places. Duncan travels through this shared world: on foot, through the air, and into the unknown.

Some worlds stay with us long after we leave them. This tribute brings together a piece of Dreams to Reality, its original artwork and the names of the people who made it.

The browser demo runs the original Windows program, recompiled for today’s browsers with a new host runtime and renderer. The story, characters, artwork and music belong to the original creators.

About the browser port

The Windows executable was lifted to C with pcrecomp, compiled to WebAssembly with Emscripten, and connected to an SDL3 host runtime and a WebGL 2 renderer built on sokol_gfx. The demo preserves browser saves with IndexedDB.
